The Brownback tax experiment was a wakeup call for Kansas. Gutting the tax base of the state led to a breakdown of the services the people of Kansas expect from their elected leaders. Some leaders in Topeka have not learned the lesson from this disastrous failure, working to take us down that path again. To address the crises facing the state, to fight for security and dignity for all Kansans, we need a robust tax system that brings relief to the lowest earners and draws on contributions from the wealthiest. I’m calling for a progressive tax structure in line with states like Minnesota and Vermont.
