The GOP's attacks on trans people is the most recent volley against the whole LGBTQIA+ community.  Trans people want to live their lives with dignity, and work to earn a living. They face the same issues as the rest of us, keeping a roof over their heads and food on their table, but they are more vulnerable to unemployment and homelessness due to discrimination and violence. For several legislative sessions, the GOP super-majority has dedicated time to attacking trans people rather than helping everyday Kansans with dictates on where they can use the bathroom, what identifying markers they can put on government documents, and interference in school sports. These attacks are intended to limit the ability of trans people to participate in public life.

I will fight for legislation to:

• Protect trans people’s rights to employment, and housing.

• Repeal discriminatory bathroom bills.

• Allow trans people to change gender markers on their government documents and pursue medical transition at any age.

• Protect the privacy of trans youth who live in hostile homes so they can seek the help of other adults in their lives.

• Return decisions on which athletes can, and can’t compete to the bodies that govern sports, based on real science, and athletic expertise.
