Investing in Veterans, Divesting in War

The Pentagon will soon receive its first $1 trillion budget, while veterans are sleeping on streets across the country.

This is unacceptable. The war industry makes tremendous profits from the destruction of countries and peoples abroad, while service members come home with untreated PTSD which, in the most severe cases, can lead to alcohol and drug abuse, broken families, and homelessness.

War hawks in Washington repeatedly lead us into endless fights and forever wars, saddling us with nation building projects that go nowhere. We cause deadly instability and chaos in the targeted regions to isolate and weaken potential geopolitical rivals. This arrangement is immensely profitable for arms dealers and leaves the human cost to be paid by civilians abroad and soldiers at home.

I’m calling for legislation to:

  • Increase state funding for programs that aid veterans, especially mental health and drug counseling, and housing programs.

  • Eliminate state funding for programs that benefit arms manufacturers.

  • Stop state universities from taking new contracts with arms manufacturers and work to phase out existing contracts.

  • Repeal anti-Boycott, Divest, Sanction laws.

  • Cut off all political and economic ties with Israel as long as they continue their genocide against Palestinians.

  • Cut off all political and economic ties with the United Arab Emirates as long as they continue funding the widespread massacres in Sudan.
